Biography |
Timothy Robert DeKay was born on June 12th, in Ithaca, New York.
Well, Lansing, New York to be more specific. Lansing is a small
town just outside of Ithaca. Tim grew up in the beautiful Finger
Lake region where his mom, Jill, still lives today. His father,
Jim, now lives in North Carolina. His brother, Jamey, now lives
just blocks away from him. In grade school and high school, Tim
enjoyed both the arts and athletics. Tim was very athletic in
school, playing both varsity Basketball and Baseball. Playing
baseball is a many generational tradition in his family! Of the
many plays Tim performed in high school, his senior year production
of Oliver! is still talked about from time to time! After high
school, Tim attended LeMoyne College to study Business and Philosophy
and play some baseball. After a short time in baseball, he decided
to pursue theater as his full-time extra-curricular activity.
He states that many of his best memories were of when he was busy
at The Firehouse (a converted firehouse turned theater) either
putting on plays, helping build sets, tear down sets, etc. Following
graduation, Tim was employed by the Marcellus Casket Co. in Syracuse,
New York. He assumed he was on the right track for business or
law, until the call of the theater became undeniable. After a
few courses in Directing at Syracuse University, Tim headed to
Rutgers University where a strong Masters Program in Acting awaited.
In addition to receiving his M.F.A, Tim was fortunate to meet
his wife, actress Elisa Taylor. They were assigned as scene partners
on the first day of grad school! Tim currently lives in California
with his wife and their two children.

(Trivia) |
An interview with Tim:
Foods: My wife's gravy
(Italian marinara sauce); my son's scrambled eggs; my daughter's
cherry pie; my dad's omelettes and my mom's Johnny cake (corn
bread)
Color: As a kid
I always liked brown. I remember my parents let me choose the
colors for my bedroom. I picked out dark brown for the walls and
the combination of brown and gold for my carpet. It was very 1970's.
Vacation spot:
Well, I have a number of them. I love taking my family
back to see my mom who still lives in the house where I grew up
in Lansing, NY. It's in the Finger Lakes region and it's beautiful
there. I also love going to an island off the coast of North Carolina
where my dad has a beach house. We also can't beat the way we
get spoiled by my in laws when we are in Phoenix. Last winter,
Elisa and the kids and I had a fantastic weekend up in Sequoia
National Park. I have been on location in many beautiful places.
I would love to return with my family to Glacier National Park
(Big Eden), Prague (The Ring), New York City, Bulgaria (Control,
Genesis Code) and the many parts of Canada where I have also filmed.
Book: Tough to
Tackle by Matt Christopher and as an adult, Anna Karenina.
Movies: Tough
to pick just one... It's a Wonderful Life is right up there.
Music: I love
anything my kids sing and dance to in our kitchen concerts. I
also love The Eagles.
Baseball team:
As a kid the Pittsburgh Pirates. They had cool uniforms and a
great catcher. Today, I tend to follow the Dodgers. I played position
as catcher from the time I was eight through my sophomore year
in college. (My son, eight, is a catcher, and my daughter, five,
scoops 'em up on the T-ball team). They both have better swings
than I did.
Actors he aspires
to work with: There are so many I'd like to work
with. I wish I could have acted with Jimmy Stewart, Claudette
Colbert, Buster Keaton, Spencer Tracy, Katherine Hepburn (whom
I met interning at a theatre and ushered her to her seat), Bud
Abbott and Lou Costello, and so many more.
Fears: I have
to admit, I am scared of spiders and I am not crazy about Halloween.
I am also a wimp when it comes to horror films (I have never seen
The Exorcist), and scary rides at theme parks. Oh, and my wife
has always been the one to kill the mice.
Miscellaneous:
- I am French, Hungarian, German and English.
- My mother and brother are both teachers.
- My father is a retired wine and liquor salesman.
- If I couldn't be an actor I would like to try architecture.
- I co-wrote a one man show about JFK.
- I am a JEOPARDY game show fanatic.
- I loved playing hockey.
- My brother and I both rode horses for several years at Sue
Lowe's Stable. My favorite horse was rebel; I did a lot of barrel
racing with him. (My brother was far better than I was and still
rides today)
- I actually ran the Ferris wheel on the CARNIVALE set.
